Doc’s New Year Wish

Dec 31st, 2012 | By

As the year ends tonight and we start to look forward to a new year, we tend to reflect on how we are doing. This year was a struggle for a lot of people, the Presidential election was bitter, the economy failing, unemployment is high, food and fuel prices are high, and we have no leadership. And that is only in California. We tend to reflect on the negative and hope for the best in the New Year.

Build a Solar Dehydrator

Build a Solar Dehydrator

Like many of you, I suspect, we’ve got a few too many tomatoes at this time of the year. One of our favorite ways to preserve our modest harvest is with our solar dehydrator. There’s nothing like the taste of sun dried tomatoes, but unless you live in a very dry desert climate like Phoenix, Arizona you can’t just set fruit out in the sun and expect it to do anything but go moldy. In most places in the world, including here in Los Angeles, the relative humidity is too high to dry things out in the sun. Solar dehydrators work by increasing air flow to dry out the food. The one we built uses a clever strategy to get air moving without the use of electric fans such as you’d find in your typical store bought electric dehydrator.

What is the Best Communications Platform?

Dec 29th, 2012 | By

Many people are searching for a reliable means of communication
and thus far have not found the answer. Many others place communications
very low on the list of priorities. When times are tough and the systems
currently in place are no longer functioning the survivor must be prepared to
provide this most basic essential for himself. In my case, a reliable
communication system is equal in importance to guns, ammo and a years supply
of food. In this article I sincerely hope to pass on the knowledge and
desire to provide for this important function.

299 Days The Collapse

299 Days The Collapse

I am enjoying this series from Glen Tate. The story is broken down into 10 books and he keeps you wanting more. I love the charter development and the fact that the “bad guys” do not even know that they are the bad guys. I think as you read this you will see this is how the world is, people that have an opinion and view those that do not as strange, evil, or just misguided. Glen is able to give that trait to all the people in his story.

This List Will Save Your Live!

Dec 26th, 2012 | By

Here is a list of all the items that you will want to get if you want to be prepared. I start out with the pet foods because people always forget about the pets. I am not a huge advocate of cats unless you have a farm, as I say that my wife has two cats, they are fun to watch but if the SHTF, they are on their own. Dogs small or big are a good security force multiplier. If you think I misses something add is in the comments below.

Cooking Freeze-Dried Foods

Freeze-dried food pouches make convenient, light-weight camping meals. You don’t need any extra dishes beyond a spoon or fork to eat with and a pot to boil water in. You can also use pouches of freeze-dried food as long-lasting food stores in case of emergency. Freeze-dried foods are almost as nutritious as fresh, and they can be stored at room temperature for years. Making Freeze-dried food a great option for long term storage.

Earlier Tuesday, Wall Street private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management said it will sell its stake in firearms maker Freedom Group, which makes one of the guns used in Friday’s mass shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children.
