wake up call?
Aug 3rd, 2012 | By Garrison | Category: BFTC FeaturedWas the mass power outage in Delhi, India that put 680 million people in the dark for 2 and a half day and all the storms the U.S. has been having a wake up call for you?
Not to sound paranoid, but they have for me. You may get a warning on the news that a storm headed, or a EAS alert of something but that doesn’t prepare you for how bad it could get but there are no warnings for a power outage and how long it may last.
One winter I spent a week without power and the whole week it snowed. I had fun with it, but there were timers it wasn’t every fun. The water pipes froze and we couldn’t flush the toilet. We did have a fireplace that we cooked out of , we kept the food from the fridge in the BBQ so the wild animals didn’t eat it and the cold weather would keep it from going bad.
In a power outage having the right equipment will help out a lot, like candles, flash lights, dried food, canned food, emergency radio, extra water, etc. If you don’t have any/some of these things you can improvise the best you can. To cook your food if you do not have a gas stove you can use a BBQ, you can boil water, use the frying pan.
Make sure you are prepared for anything that comes your way don’t get left in or the cold. Make sure you have an emergency kit or 72 hour/bug out bag at hand.
