Story Line

I Just finished Joe Nobody’s Holding Their Own and Holding Their Own II: The Independents.  The Holding Their Own books follow a young couple through their adventure surviving an economic collapse in the near future. Bishop, the main character in the book is an Army trained regular line officer that rose to the rank of Captain. After getting out of the military he did a stint working as an Engineer/ Security specialist for a large oil company out ofTexas. Bishop as a semi “retired” guy, was at home with his wife when the collapse began, and as a series of events unfolded that would lead to a world wide depression and war.

Doc’s Thoughts

The story line of the economic collapse has been the go to topic for most authors writing in the “survivalist” genre as of late. However Joe Nobody did a great job of easing the reader down the path to the point of complete depression unlike other books that make is seem as if all hell broke loose overnight. As I read this book I was comparing it to some of the other books that I read and I feel that it was much more integrating and entertaining.

I hate to compare two authors in the same review, however I did start to read a different series with a similar topic where the author did not research his military nomenclature and it drove me nuts. I did not get to like the main characters in the book, in fact I was hoping the main guy would get killed or mauled by a bear or something .  I  was so done with that guy I did not even bother to pick up the third book. See my next review on this series.

Joe Nobody did a great job using the proper military lingo and slang. He was able to get you to like the characters and even feel for them in their angst as they went through their trials. And Joe Nobody was able to make me want more. Although this is a series each book can stand alone, I do however, recommend reading them in order.

Doc’s recommendation:

Buy them both and read them now! Come on Joe Nobody when is number three coming out?

Thanks for reading, enjoy the books and let me know what you think.
