BOV: Toyota FJ60

Sep 25th, 2011 | By | Category: Bug Out

Last time I was talking to you about getting a truck for my family bug out vehicle (BOV.)  So after much research and consideration of my budget I bought a 1984 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 60. Now I am not here to argue about the best truck or the best year (EMP) I am telling you what worked for me in my budget and the ideas that I have for my truck. Like I say in the medical aspects, use what is good for you.

I got the truck for a good price a few thousand under my budget. It is solid and the engine is great. I had a trained mechanic take a once over on it. Had all the belts changed and all of the fluids changed and inspected as well. I did need to have some repairs done and that was in the budget I am still under the set budget for the rig.

Why this one:

  1. Manual Transmission
  2. Easy to work on (no computer)
  3. I can change the engine to a Diesel relativity cheep
  4. It is the size I need
  5. I like the FJ60
  6. Lots of people that are FJ hobbyists
  7. Lots of parts on the internet because people are hobbyists

Here she is. It is a start. As I fix her up I will add photos to the site.
